The Eagles Nest
Seven Troop 109 Scouts have completed Eagle Scout Leadership Service Projects in the past year, three more are in process, and two of our Scouts even received special recognition from the City of Menlo Park (see below).
Matt T. -- Trail Signs for Bay Trail at Coyote Point Recreation Area
- For his project, Matt planned and installed new trail markers at a popular trail along the San Francisco Bay.
Joe F. -- Upwind for the Underprivileged
- Joe created a sailing program to enable disadvantaged youth to learn how to sail. He carried out the project in coordination with the Pacific Youth Sailing Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula.
Jeremmie L. -- Chickadee Trail Fence and Detour Project at Huddart County Park, Woodside
- Jeremmie's project made improvements to a detour trail created to take hikers around washed out bridges.
Taylor T. -- Rehabilitation of a Landscaped Area at Flood Park, Menlo Park
- Project involved building a 300 foot rail fence around a landscaped area and replanting native plant species. Taylor raised about $1700 to complete the project.
Steven S. -- Preventing Soil Erosion at Huddart County Park, Woodside
- Steven completed his Eagle Project on National Public Lands Day to plant 50 Carmel Sur Manzanita trees to prevent hillside erosion onto a road
Two Life Scouts from Troop 109 were honored with the 2010 Environmental Quality Award in the cultural/historical category by Menlo Park's Environmental Quality Commission. Their two T109 Eagle Leadership Service Projects were at Bedwell Bayfront Park.
Philipp K. -- New Orienteering Course at Bedwell Bayfront Park, Menlo Park
- Organized a team of volunteers to create a permanent orienteering course in the park, supported by a generous grant from the Bay Area Orienteering Club

Daniel K. -- New Signage for The Great Spirit Path in Bedwell Bayfront Park, Menlo Park
- Led the installation of 53 posts for a self-guided tour of the rock sculptures that make up The Great Spirit Path, designed by artist Susan C. Dunlap
