Congratulations to our T109 Crew

For Mastering a 100-Mile Philmont Trek!
July 2011

After 9-months of preparation, training, and lightening of backpacks, our Troop 109 Crew has returned triumphantly from Trek 27 at Philmont Scout Ranch (Cimarron, New Mexico). The Crew ended up backpacking more than 100 miles over 10 days, climbing two mountains and taking part in many thrilling activities like spar pole climbing, burro racing, climbing/rappelling, shotgun shooting, horse riding, and more! Light backpacks (12-18 lbs before water and food) helped them hike faster and be more nimble than other crews, so they arrived at destinations in record time with more time spent for fun and events. The trip culminated in waking up at 2:15 am, packing up camp by 3:30 am, and hiking (literally) in the dark to see the sunrise at the top of Mt. Phillips by 6 am. The entire adventure lived up to its promise: the ultimate Boy Scout experience and memories for a lifetime.

Check out the photo slideshow below showcasing some of the highlights of Troop 109's Philmont adventure!

Troop 109 Crew celebrated the infamous climb to Mt. Baldy, had fun conquering the 40-50 foot heights in spar pole climbing, expended loads of energy in burro racing, and enjoyed many views along the way...sharing stories, helping each other, working together as a crew, and fighting over those salty pickles! (see the slideshow above)
